A sci-fi short film about a winemaker with a cosmic secret.
In our initial discussions with director Sarey Martin Concepción, we explored the fascinating journey of a newborn kangaroo, a blind, fragile creature, no larger than a cricket, that must crawl into its mother’s pouch to survive. This narrative parallels the plight of the alien creature in the film, which endures invasive probing as part of a scientific experiment. Though bred in captivity, it harbors a mysterious and powerful secret.
The alien was sculpted in ZBrush, then rigged and animated using Houdini’s KineFX. Its embryonic sac was simulated with Houdini’s Vellum, while the translucent skin materials were inspired by the fetal aesthetic in Dominic Hailstone’s music video for Holy Tears by Isis.
To enhance the clinical atmosphere, we added probes with scanning lights and subtle caustic lighting effects, reinforcing the creature’s otherworldly vulnerability.
